Energy Consumption
United Nations definitions are employed: Consumption data are based on the apparent consumption of coal, lignite, petroleum products, natural gas and hydro and nuclear energy. Coke, manufactured gas and electricity internally traded are considered to have been consumed by the importing country. Bunkers supplied to foreign-going ships are excluded from consumption. (UN Statistical Yearbook: 1971, p. 44). Values are conventionally measured in metric tons of coal equivalent.
